Heidi Kaila
I am an Economist at the Office of the Chief Economist, Africa Region at the World Bank. I am based in Washington, DC.
I work on a broad range of issues related to poverty reduction using quasi-experimental methods as well as time series analysis. I have projects on i) the consequences of conflict and policies related to violence reduction ii) the role of the information economy in transforming rural livelihoods, and iii) long-term human capital development.
Previously, I was at the Poverty Global Practice of the World Bank, South Asia Region, a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Cornell University and a consultant at the Gender Innovation Lab Africa and at the Poverty GP Nigeria Country Office of the World Bank. I received my PhD in Economics at the University of Copenhagen in 2017. Before my PhD I was a research assistant at UNU-WIDER (United Nations University -World Institute of Development Economics Research). I have a Master's and a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Helsinki.
