Over 400 contract laborers staged a demonstration outside the gate number 2 of Maruti plant in Manesar demanding immediate wage hike.
The workers alleged that the police lathi-charged on them and the local villagers beat them up. The villagers had a tiff with them over the workers interfering with an ongoing fair at a local temple.
Denying the allegations of lathi-charge, Gurgaon Police Commissioner Navdeep Virk said “the police resorted to mild use of force as the workers were resorting to violence. We detained some and the registering an FIR.”

According to a sources, the permanent workers had entered into a tripartite agreement with the Maruti management demanding wage hike on Friday night. “The temporary workers also demanded a similar increase. The management assured to look into their demands, but several hundred workers gathered outside the gate of Maruti Plant in Manesar on Saturday morning demanding immediate hike”, said a source.
The Manesar Plant of Maruti has over 3,000 temporary workers who have been demanding wages at par with the permanent workers.
After the incident two Quick Rescue Teams of the Gurgaon police were stationed at the plant and around 15 security bouncers of Maruti were also stationed in front of gate.
